Abstract
Recently, the monaclonal antibady and immunohistochemcal staining techniques for the thymidne analog BrdU have been developed. Several advantages are apparent when using the techniques of BrdU immunohistochemistry compared to those involved in ©øH-thymidine auto-radiography. One such advantage is the decreased time needed to recognized S phase-labelled cells. The BrdU technique has the advantage of not presenting the radiation hazard, containment, or decontamination problems inherent in 3H-thymidine. Currently, two major methods of BrdU administration are being utilized in this laboratory to evaluate cellular proliferation. 1) Single BrdU injection (pulse dosing). 2) Continuous dosing with slow-releasing osmotic pumps (Alza Co., CA). Immunohistochemical procedures are used to visualized BrdU-labelled DNA in a variety of tissues. Immunohistochemical of cell proliferation, differentiation, gene structure and expression, and other morphologic measurements in epithelial cells. have between to serve a new function.
